• Incident Management Successful Practices: A Cross-Cutting Study, published by FHWA in April 2000 to report incident management program benefits and lessons learned in addition to summarizing keys to effective incident management training, leadership, and interagency coordination.
• Regional Traffic Incident Management Program: An Implementation Guide, published by FHWA in May 2001 to document a framework for establishing and sustaining an incident management program.
• Special Report 260: Strategic Highway Research: Saving Lives, Reducing Congestion, and Improving Quality of Life, published by TRB in November 2001 to present the goals and objectives of a research program, funded by and commencing with the next federal-aid highway program authorization, aimed at preventing and reducing the impact of nonrecurring incidents.
• NCHRP Synthesis Topic 33-05, Safe and Quick Clearance of Traffic Incidents. This current TRB study will assess the state-of-the-practice and identify successful policies and strategies to effect quick clearance of traffic incidents.
