Problem(s) Identified
With the aid of county safety committees, and using state crash data, the Florida Department of Transportation has been identifying counties in which aggressive driving appears to be playing and important role in fatal crashes.

Goals and Objectives Established
Reduce aggressive driving as a contributor to fatal crashes in Florida. Provide assistance to programs emphasizing enforcement directed toward the goal.

Description of Strategy Implemented
The Highway Safety Office is providing funds to help underwrite enforcement directed at reducing the problems. Currently, Lee County is operating a comprehensive multiagency enforcement program (see Appendix 5).

Summary of Implementation Effort (Lessons Learned)
Lee County Sheriffs' Department has a multiagency program in operation. They have selected sites where aggressive driving-related crashes have been a problem and are targeting intensive enforcement at those locations.

Summary of the Results
The overall program began in the summer of 2001, but the program in Lee County got underway at the beginning of 2002. No evaluation has yet been performed.
