« Back to other goalsGoal 3 - Sustaining Proficiency in Older Drivers As of 1995, there were 16.5 million older licensed drivers 47 percent more than a decade earlier. This number will continue to increase as the huge "baby boomer" population begins to swell the ranks of older drivers. Safety issues associated with older drivers need to be addressed in order to stem the growing number of these drivers involved in crashes. As with younger drivers, older drivers are associated with a distinctive set of safety issues that need to be specifically addressed. Recommended Strategies:
